The idea in context
The stone included versions of a decree in hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek writing. Because Greek could be read, scholars could compare the scripts and unlock Egyptian writing. This matters globally because translation can reopen a civilisation’s voice. The so-what: a bridge language can turn silence back into history.
