Why it matters

The idea in context

Iceland’s settlement story is unusually well preserved through medieval texts, place names, archaeology and population history. Norse migrants, along with people from the British Isles and elsewhere, shaped the island’s early society. This matters globally because islands can keep migration history unusually visible. The lesson: ancestry is movement made durable.

İzlanda’nın yerleşim hikâyesi ortaçağ metinleri, yer adları, arkeoloji ve nüfus tarihiyle alışılmadık derecede iyi korunmuştur. Norse göçmenleri, Britanya Adaları ve başka yerlerden gelen insanlarla birlikte adanın erken toplumunu şekillendirdi. Adalar göç tarihini olağanüstü görünür tutabilir.
