The ocean dominates the planet’s water, climate and living space, but depth, darkness, pressure and cost make exploration difficult. Satellites see the surface; the deep requires ships, sonar, robots and time. This matters globally because the ocean affects weather, food, trade and carbon. The lesson: importance and familiarity are not the same thing.
