The story behind the card

Shakespeare wrote Henry VI, Part 3 around 1591, about the Wars of the Roses, the 15th-century fight for the English crown between the houses of Lancaster and York. In Act 4, Scene 8, word comes that the exiled Yorkist king, Edward IV, has landed with an army and is marching on London. Clarence, Edward's brother, who has gone over to the other side, urges King Henry's camp to act at once. “Suffered” means “allowed to go on”. The warning comes too late: Edward captures Henry before the scene ends.

William Shakespeare, VI. Henry, 3. Bölüm

Shakespeare, VI.
