James Joyce's 'Ulysses' famously takes place over just one day in Dublin.

Why it matters

The idea in context

Ulysses follows 16 June 1904 in Dublin, turning an ordinary day into a modern epic. Joyce maps errands, meals, desire, grief and memory onto the structure of Homer’s Odyssey, which is why Bloomsday became a literary holiday.

Joyce ayak işlerini, yemekleri, arzuyu, yas ve hafızayı Homeros’un Odysseia yapısına yerleştirir; Bloomsday’in edebi bayrama dönüşmesi bundandır.
