One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.

The story behind the card

From section 5 of the prologue to Thus Spoke Zarathustra (1883–85), a book of poetic speeches by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900), whose prophet is named after the ancient Persian Zoroaster. Zarathustra comes down from the mountains, tells a crowd that they still have chaos in them, then warns them of the ‘last man’: a coming kind of person who wants only comfort and safety and no longer strives for anything. The ‘dancing star’ is his image for new creation, possible only while that inner restlessness survives.
