The idea in context
A polished popular condensation of the conclusion of Walden (1854), where Thoreau actually wrote: “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” The shortened form appears on posters; the original adds the important part — the success that comes is of an unexpected kind.
