The story behind the card
Mandela said this on 16 July 2003 in Johannesburg, at the launch of Mindset Network, an education initiative. He had lived the claim. He began a law degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1943 but left without finishing it, then kept studying by correspondence in prison, first with the University of London and later the University of South Africa, which awarded him his LLB in 1989, a year before his release. On Robben Island, prisoners taught each other so much that they called the prison 'the university'.

Mandela bu sözü 16 Temmuz 2003'te Johannesburg'da, bir eğitim girişimi olan Mindset Network'ün açılışında söyledi. Söylediğini kendi hayatında yaşamıştı. 1943'te Witwatersrand Üniversitesi'nde hukuk okumaya başladı ama bitiremedi. Hapisteyken de mektupla öğretimle okumayı sürdürdü, önce Londra Üniversitesi'nde, sonra Güney Afrika Üniversitesi'nde. Hukuk diplomasını 1989'da, serbest kalmasından bir yıl önce aldı.
