The epidermis is not a fixed covering. Cells rise, mature, flatten and shed while new ones replace them from below. For a personal comparison, the surface of your hand today is not exactly the one you had weeks ago. The lesson is calm and physical: renewal is often quiet, gradual and happening before you notice it.
