The quiet room

Stillness is treated here as a form of attention, not withdrawal. These cards move through sleep, perspective, emotional steadiness and the small practices that make a crowded day more inhabitable.

Negative space — the empty area around and between subjects — is not just a gap; it is an active part of composition.

Negative space matters in painting, photography, sculpture, architecture and graphic design because it tells the eye where to rest and how to read the subject. Empty space can sharpen a silhouette, create rhythm, add tension or calm the whole image. A strong artist often creates power not by adding more, but by leaving the right amount of room to breathe.

Do not do to others what you would not want done to yourself.

This one is authentic: in the Analects (Book 15, verse 24), a disciple asks whether a single word could guide one's whole life. Confucius answers: reciprocity — “What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.” Spoken in China in the 5th century BC, it predates most other formulations of the golden rule, and states it in the restrained, negative form: begin by doing no harm.
